The member representing Odukpani / Calabar Municipality at the lower Chambers of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Bassey Akiba celebrated his inauguration with constituents in a thanks giving service at the presbyterian Church Ediba parish, calabar Municipality
The event was well attended by top and non politicians from across the length and breathe of cross River devoid of party affiliation, some renown clergymen of churches in calabar were also sighted at the occasion by our reporter
In his remarks, the lawmaker said he was thankful to God for what he has done in his life and family, was also thankful to the people of the federal constituency for the confidence they repose in him by electing him to represent them at the green chambers of the National Assembly, which he had promised to give a better representation with the fear of God
In his sermon, the prelate and moderator of the General Assembly of presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Ekpenyong Akpanika whose topic for the sermon was, “count your blessings and dismiss your fears” said, the emergence of Bassey Akiba was the lord’s doing when he ran election with other contenders who were financially stronger and with better connection
He maintained that Akiba was already chosen by God before he went in for the election, stressing that “if God has destin you for greatness, nobody can stop you”.He admonished him not to fail the people especially now that the people are yearning for a change.
The clergy told the lawmaker that the people have seen something in him before they decided to give him their mandate adding that, representing the people, much is also expected of him. Then called on Akiba to add value to the economic well-being of the people he is representing
The prelate advised the lawmaker to take a complete departure from politicians who always forget how they started, urging him not to forget God and also not to forget his people, he concluded.
