Akpabuyo legislative council has suspended three Councilors Indefinitely for misconduct at the sitting of Akpabuyo legislative council held on 1st November, 2022 at the legislative chamber
The three Councilors are; Hon. Elijah Effiom Effanga, Councilor representing Effanga Offiong Ward and the majority leader of Akpabuyo legislature, Hon. Offiong Offiong Eyo- Councilor representing Nakanda ward, Deputy Majority leader and Hon.Etim Bassey Edet -Councilor representing Edet Nsa ward
In a motion moved by Hon. Queen Nyong Effiom, Councilor representing Eneyo North ward who is the Deputy leader had informed members of the legislative council of the ugly conduct which was bordered on an act of dishonesty exhibited by the three Councilors
The resolution No 23 which has to do with the suspension of the three Councilors was cited by our reporter posited that these three Councilors collected and diverted the sum of One Million, Two Hundred Thousand from member representing Akpabuyo in the Cross River House of Assembly (CRSHA) Hon. Ekeng Effiom Edet, that was meant for ten Councilors in Akpabuyo legislative council
The Hon. members deliberated on the matter and frowned at the conduct of the three Councilors with total condemnation with a substantive motion moved by Hon. Queen Nyong and seconded by Hon. Etim Okon Inyang, Councilor representing Edem Odo ward
7 Councilors out of 10 voted in support of their suspension from plenary and they will also loose all their benefits during the period of their suspension
In an interview with Hon. Offiong Offiong Eyo-Councilor representing Nakanda ward and one of the suspended Councilors, said the suspension is of no effect because due process was not duely followed,en his words, ,”no body is suspending me because due process was not followed, and you can not hang me with my phone”.
The leader of Akpabuyo legislature, Hon.Ekong Edet uquo in an interview said their activities has transgress the moral ethics of the legislative, he maintained that their suspension will serve as a deterrent to others
