Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu re- selected and proclaimed Obong of calabar

The protracted tussle for the throne of Obong of calabar has finally been brought to an end with the  emergence of Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu v as the Obong of calabar

rs)of the palace of  Obong of calabar in compliance with the supreme court order (judgement) of 13th January, 2023 has re-election and proclaim Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu v as the Obong of calabar

A statement signed by the chairman of the conclave, HRH. Etubom Edem Ofiong Efiwatt, Secretary, HRH Edem Ita Esien Ededem and other members of the conclave dated 18th January 2023

The statement read as thus; “following the supreme court order on the 13th of January, 2023 ordering the Etuboms’ conclave of the Palace of Obong of calabar to conduct another process of selecting Obong of calabar in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of Etuboms’ council 2002”

“In strict compliance with the rules of natural justice, amongst other things, the Etuboms’ council had promptly complied with that judgement by taking every necessary steps leading to and  convening the Etuboms’ conclave and conducting another selection of Obong of calabar”

The statement added, being that it was the turn of Atai Iboku group of Houses in (western calabar) as provided for by the constitution of Etuboms’ council 2022

The statement maintained that qualified Etuboms’ who fell under  their group were communicated to and directed to produce and present their nominees to the Etuboms ‘conclave on Wednesday   18th of January 2023

The statement further stressed that the most senior Etubom of Atai Iboku group of Houses, HRH Etubom Otu Efa Otu, presented their selected nominee for the throne of Obong of calabar in the person of HRH, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu from Adiabo Ikot Mbo Otu House, having been fully satisfied with the candidate’s

Qualifications and eligibility, the Etuboms’ conclave therefore declared him the successor to the throne of the Obong of calabar
