The University of Calabar has inducted the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the 6th Chancellor of the University, which event took place at the international conference centre of the institution
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, the new Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the University for honouring him with the position of Chancellor of the institution.
The Emir had also assured the University of his support in the development and welfare of students and staff of the institute.
The Emir in his words;”I feel greatly honoured by this appointment as a Chancellor of this great and historical University. I have undertaken to use this opportunity to see to it that we work with the University management for its growth and development”.
” Our country Nigeria as a part of the global village is not immune to the consequences of globalization, COVID-19, climate change and other developmental challenges have all combine to open new dimensions to us, a developing country. We shall always be mindful of this, while tackling our myraid development challenges”.
” In particular the imbroglio between government and ASSU, the growth of Universities, the issue of access to University education, amongst others” he stated.
” Against this background and with my new gab, I will engage the federal government and all relevant agencies to look into the accommodation problem of staff and students of this University, considering the the growing population and complexities of a 21st century modern University such as ours. We will explore the opportunity of erecting a befitting Senate building for the University.”
The Chancellor further assured that his reign would be duty bound to study the welfare scheme of staff in other universities in relation to the take home pay of the University staff.
