The National Population Commission (NPC) has said that the commission is prepared fully to participate participate in the 2022 Calabar Carnival to showcase the commission’s readiness to conduct credible and accurate population and housing census.
Making the disclosure in calabar yesterday in a press briefing, The Chairman, National Population Commission, Hon Nasir Isa Kwarra who was represented by the Chairman Standing Committee, Public Affairs, Dr Eyitayo Oyetunji dropped the hint.
The Chairman in his words said; “We have participated in Lagos international trade fair, we have participated in the Kano international trade fair but we consider the Calabar Carnival of even greater importance”.
He maintained that carnival calabar has a wider audience adding that apart from those who come for the carnival physically, the carnival is being broadcasted to millions around the world.
“The policy of the commission is to get people involved, our catchword is “You count, be counted” , we want to leave no one behind. That’s is why, as part of our publicity strategy to reach out to Nigerians especially opportunity like this when we have people coming from different part of the country and from different sphere of life.
” we will use this carnival to assure the international viewers that this next census is going to be credible, reliable and accurate”.
“We are going to participate in the actual march and many of our staff are already prepared towards the carnival float.
We will share flyers and handbills, we are going to use electronic to showcase our readiness and we will have a stand in the carnival route where members of the public can come in and ask questions he explained”.
Also speaking at the press briefing, the state commissioner, Navy Captain Charles Ogwa (Rtd) in his remarks, welcome the delegates of NPC commissioners from nine states and noted that NPC will be participating in the Calabar Carnival as non competing group.
