Elders from the southern senatorial district of Cross River State under the aegis of Southern Initiative
have berated former Governor of the state, His Excellency Mr Donald Duke over comments made by the former Governor on the
social media platform recently.
In a press statements signed by 26 prominent men and women across the 7 local government areas in the southern District of the state, and dated 16th march 2023 which was read by Hon. Sylvester Nsa, a former Commissioner in the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
The elders were sad and worried at the behavior of their own son, Mr. Donald Duke who ordinarily would have supported the struggle of back to south agenda, is rather making mockery and inciting comments about the back to south slogan
The statement also recalled that the former Governor equates back to south to “Back to Status quo”. “Back to Ayade”.”Back to Co-Governor”, and “Back to single -handedly picked surrogate” describing his actions as most unfortunate.
The southern Initiative sees the behaviors of Mr Duke as most disingenuous and treacherous and an attempt to upturn the principle of zoning and rotation which has brought political stability in the state
He was also reminded of how the southern District supported him in 1999, when he was relatively unknown in the state and in 2003, he couldn’t have succeed in his second term bid because he had nothing to show for except the litany of failed projects in his first term, the people rallied round him
They warned him against pushing them to go back and open the books on those violent and wasteful years of his Government, adding that Mr Donald Duke benefited immensely from the support of the southern people but left the south stranded, impoverished and impotent at the end of his flashy reign
